Mortice Locks

Mortice locks are installed within a recess or hole in a door, rather than fitted to the surface of the door like Night Latch Locks. Mortice locks come in two forms a 'Sashlock' and a 'Deadlocks', both come with different security levels, where 5 Lever British Standard lock is what our locksmiths advise for every exit door. Mortice Deadlocks are common on wooden front doors to compliment either a bolt or nightlatch lock. Mortice Sashlocks with handles have a latch and bolt, and are usually found on back doors and internal bedroom doors where the latch is operated by a handle and the bolt is operated with a key to lock it in place.

Mortice locks can either have levers or a cylinder. Lever Mortice locks can have anything between 2 - 5 levers, the 5 lever mortice lock is the most secure with the incorporation of anti-drill plates ( Hard steel plate which can prevent vandals from drilling through to gain access).

Cylinder operated Mortice Locks are commonly found on commercial premises such as offices, and also in may communal doors with thumbturn cylinder on the inside.
